- 1958 photo from South Africa. South Africa has a copyright term of 50 years since publication. Even if published during the same year, the copyright didn't expire until 1959, which is after the URAA date. This is thus protected by copyright for 95 years since publication in the United States. Stefan2 (talk) 15:20, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Not sure what you mean here. Could you please explain further what URAA is? If the copyright term was 50 year from 1958, it expired in 2008 and shouldn't it be considered to be public domain since then? Zaminamina Eh Eh Waka Waka Eh Eh 20:00, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- The photo was taken in 1958. The copyright expires in South Africa 50 years after the first publication of the photo. It doesn't say when or where the photo was first published, but if it was already published in 1958, then the copyright expired in South Africa in 2009. It says that the photo was published in a book in 1999. If that was the first time the photo was published, then the copyright expires in South Africa on 1 January 2050 instead. On Wikipedia, we use United States copyright law, though, and according to United States copyright law, the copyright to a South African photo expires 95 years after publication unless the photo already was in the public domain in South Africa on 1 January 1996. As this photo wasn't in the public domain in South Africa on 1 January 1996, it is still protected by copyright in the United States. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:47, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, thanks. I trust you then, the photo should be deleted if this is true. Zaminamina Eh Eh Waka Waka Eh Eh 15:20, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- All post-1945 South African photos are protected by copyright in the United States since they were still protected by copyright in South Africa on 1 January 1996. See WP:Non-U.S. copyrights#Four-point test. Stefan2 (talk) 20:52, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
