Been sitting in my dropbox for a long time, finally got off my butt and finished this!
The Northrop F-5E Tiger II is likely one of my top favorite jet fighter aircraft. Light weight, cheap and easy to maintain, maneuverable in a dogfight, and a wonderful airplane to fly. The F-5 is one of those rather under rated aircraft. While it lacks many of the fancy avionics and BVR abilities other larger, more expensive fighters have, in a close in dogfight and flown by a competent pilot, it can more then hold its own. Its said that during the Red Flag exercises during the 70s and 80s, for student pilots encountering well flown aggressor F-5s in their F-16s, F-15s, F-14s, etc, it was very rare for the student to come out on top the first time.....and in real combat, it only takes that one time....
Anywho...splash one Mig....looks like another took a shot with a missle, break! break! break!

Now this is a thing of beauty! The detail is uncanny: love the condensation effect around the aircraft, love the "shot down" sequence of the MiG, and I absolutely love the look of the F-5 Tiger II!
Couple of things I want to add: VMFT-401, based in Yuma, Arizona, still flies aggressor F-5N Tiger IIs. For how long, I honestly couldn't tell you! And in regards to the red-painted rudder, is that supposed to represent the Tuskegee Airmen, or is that a common thing to see on F-5s back in the day!

Wuffy loved it when the Thunderbirds flew the T-38 version of this plane. The precision and performance of the trainer version was beautiful and impressive to watch, even without the powerful upgrades that made it such an effective fighter in its F-5E version.
Beautiful work here!

*snickers* You're gonna make this wuff feel like an old fogy! Vrghr saw them twice - one at Vandenberg AFB, and once at Beale AFB. Vandy was Author's first tour of duty following basic training @ Lackland in TX, and then tech school @ Keesler AFB in MS. And Beale was after Author cross-trained out of ground NAVAIDS and into Space and went to work at the AF Weather Satellite Systems depot @ McClellan AFB in Sacramento.
